Founder Profile
After 20+ years in this field, from securing critical infrastructure to diving into the startup world, I've learned what works and what doesn't. I've helped 4 different startups raise serious funding (over £400m), and now I'm putting all that experience to work at echo5. We're doing things differently here - breaking down the usual barriers and making cybersecurity more practical and effective.
I'm a cybersecurity and product leader with a knack for helping companies nail their security and product strategy. I’m a geek who loves GTM too - weird.
As the founder of echo5, I work with cybersecurity companies to help them build better products and grow faster.
My journey started in the trenches - 12 years running security programs for banks and retailers, then leading product and security teams at companies like Cyberhaven, Tanium, Zscaler, and Contentful. I've seen security from every angle - building it, selling it, and buying it.
I wrote Cyber Risk Management: Prioritise Threats, Identify Vulnerabilities, and Apply Controls (yeah, it did pretty well on Amazon), and helped startups raise over $400M. Now with echo5, I'm doing what I love most - working hands-on with teams to make real impact in cybersecurity.
A Different Kind of Leadership
Breaking from traditional startup approaches, echo5 operates without a co-founder or full-time employees. Instead, we've built an ecosystem of carefully selected freelancers, partners, and advisors who directly shape our direction and work with clients.
The decision to keep full-time employees to a minimum was strategic, constructed from over two decades in the industry. Too many people simply want to collect a pay cheque whilst moaning about their colleagues, their boss, or their workload. Too many treat work as a chore rather than an opportunity to create impact.
The paradox of conventional startup security leadership is particularly frustrating - the more experience you accumulate, the less you actually apply it. Days become filled with running appraisals, completing balanced scorecards, attending meetings about meetings, and pontificating rather than doing.
Our model at echo5 means we work with the best - fellow entrepreneurs and innovators who approach their work with genuine enthusiasm and a drive to get things done. We fuse our skills in the best interests of our clients, creating an environment where expertise meets execution without the traditional corporate overhead.
